William Maheras Obituary

May 2, 1940 - August 6, 2025

William “Bill” E. Maheras, age 85 of North Easton, completed life’s journey on Wednesday, August 6 at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 41 years Carole (Sidell) Maheras.

Bill is predeceased by his parents Anthony and Mary (Stiles) Maheras of Lynn, his brother Charles “Charlie” Maheras of Saugus, his sister Helen and her husband Thomas Clarke of Lynn, his sister Dolores and husband Jack Kelley of Peabody, and his dear wife Carole.

Bill fiercely loved his country, with one of his proudest achievements being joining the United States Army at 19 years old. He served honorably from July 9, 1959 to June 26, 1961 as a member of Company C, 168th Engineer Battalion. Stationed near Stuttgart, Germany, he supported the 24th Infantry Division during the Cold War by providing combat engineer support in major NATO exercises and bridging operations on the Rhine before being honorably transferred to the Army Reserve. Bill spent the rest of his life sharing his patriotism with others by passing out American flag pins to those whom he encountered.

Bill’s memory will live on in the hearts of many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cherished friends, foster children, and all those who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Service will take place on Friday, August 22nd at 11am at Knollwood Memorial Park. There will be a mass on-site followed by a burial in the Garden of Meditation including a presentation of the flag by the Armed Forces.

To honor Bill’s life and service, the family invites those wishing to remember him to make a gift to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs www.va.gov/donate or your local VA hospital in his honor.
