Wendy Marks

September 22, 1953 ~ June 11, 2022 (age 68)

On June 11, 2022 at the age of 68, Wendy Marks passed away at Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a months-long battle with stage IV pancreatic cancer.

Wendy was born on September 22, 1953 to Martin and Betty (Lusthaus) Marks in Brooklyn, NY. Fiercely independent and driven by knowledge and compassion for others, Wendy graduated from East Meadow High School at the age of 16 and moved to Boston to attend Northeastern, where she received her Bachelor’s in Experimental Psychology in 1973. Further academic pursuits led to a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from Springfield College in 1976 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1983.

After years spent working as a rehabilitation counselor, Wendy co-founded Independent Living, Inc., a company providing in-home health care in Greater Boston that at one point employed over 100 people. After selling the company, Wendy started her own home practice as a medical intuitive, providing one-on-one integrative therapy for over 20 years up to the time of her death. Her practice gave care and relief to so many clients who felt abandoned or ignored by Western medicine.

Outside of education and work, Wendy was a friend to many kindred spirits in the Boston area and beyond. She made a point of inviting someone new to her home every year for Passover Seder in order to build connections in her community. Aside from hosting large holiday gatherings and making friends and family feel welcome in her home, some of her many hobbies and interests included painting, swimming, singing in choirs, going to Red Sox games, and the music of Meatloaf. She also doted on Freida and Mira, her two Siberian cats.

She is survived by her two children: Raz (Razor) Edwards of Ridgewood, NY and Timothy (Tim) Gilman of Somerville, MA. They will be sitting shiva at her home from June 15 to June 17, 2022, accepting visitors from 11am-1pm and 6pm-8pm on those days. A memorial service will be held at her home on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 4:30pm to 7pm, with a short ceremony (which will also be streamed via Zoom) at 5pm.
