Theresa Beatty Obituary

Theresa Marie (Kelly) Beatty

Theresa (Kelly) Beatty, age 98, died on Valentine’s Day, February 14th in her independent living apartment in Milton, MA. after living a loving life taking care of her family and serving others. Theresa was born on November 20th, 1925, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the daughter of Dennis and Marie (Gaffney) Kelly.

Theresa graduated from Holy Spirit High School in June 1943. After graduation, she worked in the County Treasurer’s office in Atlantic City. In 1947, she married William F Beatty in the Naval Chapel in Pensacola, FL after he was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy and awarded his wings as a Naval Aviator. Theresa accompanied her husband through 23 ½ years of military service both in the US and overseas. She and her husband Bill retired to Northfield, VT in 1966, where they began an association with Norwich University that lasted 24 years. Theresa was the mother of 10 children, grandmother to 30, and great-grandmother to 28.

Theresa spent her life caring for her husband and family and helping, whenever possible, with the arrival of grandchildren. The practice of her Catholic faith was an important aspect of her life, and she was an active participant in parish life wherever she lived. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. John’s Church in Northfield and a member of Our Lady’s Sodality in parishes in NJ, MD, VA, and VT.  She taught Religious Education classes at St. John’s in Northfield and was a member of the Parish Council there. In addition, Theresa served as a Cub Scout Den Leader, a Brownie Leader, a Remedial Reading Aide, a Hospice Volunteer, an Adult Education Volunteer, and a reader at the Northfield Library Children’s story hour.

Her happiness in life came through the deep love she experienced with her husband and family. Their accomplishments gave her unending joy, and she was an especially proud wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Theresa is survived by her children Michael and wife Clara of Millville NJ; William Jr. and wife Lee of Clifton Park, NY; Catherine of Coventry, CT; Peter and wife Nancy Kendrick of Boston, MA; Glenn and wife Kathy Costello of Jericho, VT; Christine and husband Dr. Richard Cambria of Milton MA; Patrick and wife Kathy Behan of Marlborough MA; Mary and husband John Glucksman of Standish, ME; Rose Beatty of Northfield VT; John and wife MaryPat Fredette of Westford MA; 30 grandchildren and their spouses; and 28 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a nephew Dennis E. Kelly 3rd of NJ, nephews Peter Pallitto and Paul Pallitto of NJ, niece Suzanne Bates of NJ, and sister-in-law Faith Crowe.  She was predeceased by William, her husband of 68 years; her brothers Dennis and the Reverend Peter Kelly; her sisters Sister Catherine Kelly CSC, Margaret Weber, and Rose Pallitto; and her sisters-in-law Lois Thayer and Sister Mary Ann Beatty.
