Theodoros Papadopoulos Obituary

Theodoros Papadopoulos of Walpole MA, (born April 10, 1946) went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2022 after a long illness.

Beloved husband of Maria (Sideropoulos). Devoted father of Kiky, Debbie and Maki. Adoring papou of Alexander. Cherished father-in-law of Samuel and Shahrzad. Loving brother of Ekaterini. Fondly remembered brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Born in Prohoma, Thessaloniki, Greece, Ted served as a Sergeant in the Greek Army, then worked in agriculture until 1969 when he emigrated with his beloved Maria to the United States. They lived in Roslindale, where he continued to be a hard-working member of the Greek community, following many in their employment in the Seaport district of Boston at the No-Name Restaurant and Jimmy’s Harborside, and also as Head Bus Boy at The Top of the Hub in the Prudential.

He was later employed as a sheet-metal worker for ten years, then moved the family back to his hometown in Greece for seven years where he ran his import/export business of agricultural equipment to and from Italy.

The family moved back to Norwood, where their three children attended Norwood High School, and Theodoros opened up the well-known Dandy Donuts. He was very generous to the members of Norwood and surrounding towns, always sharing his time and products with those in need.

For many years, he offered a Thanksgiving dinner to the community at the Dandy Donuts location, where after serving others, his extended family and friends would sit down at a long table to enjoy their Thanksgiving meal together.

During the late 70s, 80s and 90s, while busy with all of his previously mentioned employment, Theodoros also served as a loyal right-hand to his brother-in-law, Henry Sideropoulos, who considered him a brother. He worked alongside him at his gas stations in many areas of Eastern Massachusetts. Their friendship was admirable.

Ted was a member of the Greek Evangelical Church of Boston, where he came to a relationship with Christ under the ministry of its founding pastor, Rev. Argos Zodhiates.

Theodoros was considered a true miracle of God. After being given an hour to live following an emergency room visit, he received a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) at Tufts New England Medical Center. Eleven months later—and less than 24 hours after being put on a heart transplant list—Theodoros received a heart transplant. He lived a miraculous 15 more years. He was invited to become an encouraging spokesperson to patients at Tufts who were awaiting the LVAD procedure; an invitation that he willingly accepted.

On a snowy day in March, 2019, just before the pandemic hit, Ted was wheeled in to his swearing-in ceremony, where he proudly became a United States citizen.

Theodoros was a man who lived his life quietly and without slight to any other. He loved his family, was proud of his Pontian heritage, and served others. He will be greatly missed by many.

A funeral service for Theodoros will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, 12:00 noon at the Greek Evangelical Church, 1115 Centre Street, Newton. Interment will be at Gardens at Gethsemane, West Roxbury. Family and friends are invited.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Evangelical Church of Boston, 1115 Centre Street, Newton, MA  02459
