Robert Griffin Obituary

ROBERT L.  GRIFFIN, 74 of West Roxbury passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023. Beloved husband of Donna (Mealey) of West Roxbury. Devoted father to Jodi Griffin of Brooklyn, New York, Daniel Griffin (Jate) of Bellingham, Elizabeth Bjorkman (Randy) of North Attleboro, and Nicole Griffin of West Roxbury. Loving brother of John Griffin (Joan) of Dedham. Proud Papa of Aubrey and Emma Bjorkman, and Max Griffin. Brother-In-Law to Joanne and John Ryan of Westwood, John and Deirdre Mealey of Westwood, Ginny and Dan Carroll of West Roxbury, Becky and the late Robert Mealey of Framingham. Uncle of Chris Ryan (Jen), Karyn Healey (Keith) Christina, Ali(Mike) and Marissa Mealey, Robbie and Dan Mealey, Michael (Sarah), Tim(Kaitlyn) and Erin Carroll, and Lauren, Ashley, and Kevin Griffin. Son of the late Gerald and Dorothy (Lorenz) Griffin.

A lifelong resident of Roslindale and West Roxbury, Bob had two passions in his life-his family and the Boston Red Sox. If he wasn’t home with his family, he could be found at Fenway Park cheering on the Red Sox. He never gave up on them and often talked about how in 1967 he and his best friend Mike attended over 60 games.

Bob was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his children and being part of every aspect of their lives. In retirement, he loved traveling all over New England with Donna. Breakfast was his favorite meal of the day and he always looked forward to going to Harry’s with his brother. Bob took on his proudest role when he became "Papa" to Aubrey, Emma, and Max. His grandchildren were the center of his universe.

On the day in July 1987 when he married Donna he became part of the Mealey family. His sister and brother in laws were like siblings to Bob and he thought of them as brothers and sisters. They in turn considered him a brother.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale, especially the aides, nurses, doctors, and therapists in the RSU and on 4 Berenson. They cannot express how much they appreciate the care and compassion they extended to Bob and his family in the last months of Bob’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be sent to:
