It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Rita Christine Walsh, of West Roxbury, MA on September 3, 2025, at the age of 79 years. Rita died peacefully at home, in the presence of her daughter. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Laura Walsh and her husband Kenneth Boyd, grandsons Francis and Connor Boyd, brother John Walsh, sisters Patricia (Walsh) Downey, Catherine (Walsh) Gale and her husband Fred, and many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Catherine (Canney) Walsh, brothers Joseph Walsh, Robert Walsh, and Thomas Walsh, and sisters Mary Walsh and Margaret (Walsh) Moscato.
Rita grew up the youngest of nine siblings in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. She attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic school and Boston Business School, after which she worked for 46 years as an accomplished executive administrative and legal assistant at Boston Edison Company. Upon retirement, Rita was active with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UMASS Boston, attended museum exhibits, concerts, and ballets, and spent time with family and many dear friends.
Rita’s most gifted roles were those of mother, sister, aunt, and especially Nana. Her warmth, patience and kindness provided an unwavering source of strength and caring for her family members. She got her greatest joy from her grandchildren, whether embarking on family travel adventures or calmly reading storybooks. She was cherished by so many.
