Rachel Kaufman Lavin was born on March 26, 1950, and after a long decline passed peacefully on November 3, 2023 at the age of 73 in Dedham, Massachusetts.
Rachel was born in Brooklyn, NY and was raised in Hollywood, Florida. As a youth she loved swimming in the Flamingo Pool and playing at the beach with friends. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University. Rachel played the flute, enjoyed singing and had a beautiful singing voice, thrived on musicals and rock music, and never tired of telling stories about her adventures at Woodstock.
Nature and natural things were part of her spirit. Rachel loved trees and flowers and crystals and was always eager for a walk outside. A vegetarian, she enjoyed mango tea, a Dunkin’ iced mocha, and good outing for Chinese food!
Rachel had an engaging smile, a warm nature, and a cheerful presence.
Rachel was the much-loved daughter of Bernie and Elissa Kaufman, and wife of Robert Lavin, who all passed before her. She is survived by her son, Jacob Lavin; her brothers Howard and Allan Kaufman; her sisters-in-law Janet Boguslaw and Nydia Morales and four nephews: Louis, Max, Alex, and Daniel Kaufman.
The family would like to thank her caregivers at The Hitchins Drive Community Home who provided her with wonderful care and made a real home for her for over 15 years; the staff at NewBridge on the Charles who more recently provided her care and engaging activities; and especially Gigi, who provided her with extra care, friendship, good humor and love. We, her family, are indebted to you.
Funeral and Burial Service: 1:45 pm Sunday November 5, 2023, at Or Emet Cemetery. Mourners will meet at the front gate of the Baker Street Cemeteries, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
