Mikelis Veidis Obituary

Dr. Miķelis Valdis Veidis passed away on March 14, 2024 at the age of 85. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Brigita Veidis (Lilienšteins), his children Valda Grinbergs (Veidis) and spouse Gints; Andris Veidis and spouse Alysa; and Martiņš Veidis and spouse Michelle. He is survived by seven grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Miķelis Veidis was born in Melluži Latvia, and during his lifetime lived in various countries on several continents. As a child, he and his family fled from Soviet occupation in Latvia to displaced persons camps in Germany. The family eventually emigrated to Brisbane, Australia, where Miķelis met and married his wife Brigita. Their children Valda and Andris were born in Brisbane. After completing his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Queensland, the family moved to Canda so that Dr. Veidis could pursue his doctorate studies at the University of Waterloo. In 1969, the family settled in Boston, MA so that Miķelis could pursue postdoctorate research at Harvard University. There, the family settled in Newton, Massachusetts, and a third child was born, Mārtiņš. In 1991, Miķelis Veidis and his wife moved back to Latvia, where Dr. Veidis was a chemistry professor at the University of Latvia. He was most happy in Latvia, mentoring young chemistry students, enjoying time with close family and friends, and relaxing in the Latvian countryside.

A Church Service will be held on Friday March 22, at 11:00 am at the Latvian Lutheran Church, 58 Irving St. Brookline. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at the home of the Grinbergs Family, 425 Common St., Dedham, MA 02026

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
