Miguel Torres Obituary

Miguel Angel Torres, December 15, 1937 – January 10, 2023

Son of Sixto Torres & Carmen Torres Rivera

Beloved brother of Peter, Tony, Hilda, Esther and Rafael and Uncle to many loving nieces and nephews who will remember his fun and charismatic personality.

Father to Mary Beth Torres, Michael Torres, Craig Torres, CJ Torres & Nathan Torres.

Stepfather to Margarita Lebron & Luis Lebron.

Abuelo to Pablo Murphy Torres, Liam Murphy Torres, Anthony Torres, Kayla Ayala, Kimberly Rivera, Tatiana Flores, Yanaliz Suarez Lebron, Anadaraliz Suarez Lebron and Jermanny Suarez Lebron.

Miguel was born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico and made his home on the mainland in Boston and spent many years in Michigan. Miguel was a compassionate fighter for justice and civil rights for the underserved, especially the Puerto Rican community, Veterans & Mexican Migrant workers, and their families. Many people over the years would say that Miguel was like a father or brother to them and how much he helped and inspired others.

Miguel was a self-educated man, he enjoyed reading and philosophizing, loved politics, fishing & watching sports with his best friend Benny Medina . He was a storyteller and would write everything down, when he couldn’t find a word in the dictionary for what he wanted to say he would make up his own.

Miguel always loved to make others laugh, he was silly and loving with children and took joy in little things, like simply watching children play and dance in rain puddles.

He believed that overall, what was most important in this world was Love and friendship, and that we as human beings are a flawed but blessed & beautiful species.

He will be remembered by his family and friends by one of his most famous greetings, Happy Birthday to you! No matter what day it was, reminding us that we should treat every day as if it were our first, with joy, enthusiasm, possibility, and purpose and try our best to make the world a better place. He would want us to carry on with strength and look forward to the future.
