Obituary

Maureen Frances Rooney (Price) of West Roxbury passed away at home on September 3, 2023.

Maureen was born in Boston on April 11, 1941, to the late Harold and Teresa O'Rourke Price of West Roxbury. She was a 1958 graduate of Notre Dame Academy. In the 1960s, Maureen lived in Walpole where she raised her two children as a single mother. She had a certain adventurous streak to her, and after taking a cross-country road trip with her kids, decided to move to Denver, Colorado, in 1977. She was very happy to have missed the "Blizzard of '78!" Maureen built a new life and rich community in Colorado where, among other pursuits, she learned how to ski in the Rocky Mountains. She worked in administrative jobs throughout the 70s and 80s. She returned to live in West Roxbury when her kids went to college in the mid-1980s. Maureen began working as a para educator with Boston Public Schools where she remained until her retirement in 2009. In retirement, Maureen loved spending time with dear friends and family, visiting her children and grandchildren, camping on the Cape, and reading all the books one can finally read after working and raising a family for many decades. Maureen was quick to laugh, feisty in spirit, and a living encyclopedia of family history. She leaves many of us with a "Maureen shaped void" in our hearts. She was one of a kind.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Rooney of Flower Mound, TX, her daughter Susan Rooney of Seattle, WA, grandchildren James (Finn) Rooney, Haley Rooney-Wilcox, Marlena Rooney-Wilcox, sister Ellen "Terri" Coyle (Price) of Woburn, Brian Price of Walpole, and the late James Price of Martha's Vineyard. She also leaves many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families, who she adored.

Family and friends will honor and remember Maureen's life by gathering at the Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA 02132,  from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, September 15, 2023 followed by a procession to New Calvary Cemetery, (Walk Hill Street and Harvard Street). All are welcome.
