Maureen Mulcahy Obituary

Maureen (Makin) Mulcahy, of North Quincy, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side at South Shore Hospital on April 14, 2026. Maureen was 74 years old and the daughter of the late Mary Alice (nee Cawley) and John Makin of Boston. Maureen is survived by her husband Bill, her son Brendan and grandsons Parker and Finn of Chicago, daughter Colleen and son-in-law Anthony Greenwood and granddaughters Sophie and Abby of Quincy, sisters Kathleen Williams of West Roxbury and Eileen Wingate of Quincy, cousin James Cawley of Quincy, and was predeceased by her siblings Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Makin, and brother-in-law Richard Williams of Boston. Her loving family includes nieces and nephews Rachel, Michael, Brian and wife April Williams of Boston, Joshua and wife Mauri Wingate and their children Kaya and Wolf Wingate of California. Maureen was the sister-in-law to Richard and Kathleen Mulcahy of Abington, Diane and David Malmgren of Quincy, Michael and Mary Mulcahy of Scituate, and Judith Mulcahy of Florida. She is also survived by nieces and nephews James and Darlene Mulcahy of Berkley, Kathleen and William Ducheney of Abington, Debra and Chris Cutter of East Bridgewater, Robert and Meghan Melchionda of Braintree, Erin Mulcahy of Braintree, Adrienne Koufos of Weymouth and Katherine Monteiro of Weymouth. She is also survived by a large group of Cawley cousins.  

Maureen spent her entire life as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked from grade 10 to her retirement at age 70. The majority of her career was spent working as a computer programmer at various companies. Maureen is also survived by a great group of friends with whom she spent countless hours traveling, partying, playing cards, going to the beach, and going out to dinner. Maureen and her family spent 38 years at their cottage on Square Pond in Shapleigh, Maine. Her neighbors in Maine were like her second family. Maureen enjoyed playing the lottery, poker, Whist, trying her luck in casinos, and buying and selling stocks. She was the first female to be allowed (invited) to play cards with her male neighbors in Maine. She loved traveling to Ireland, Italy, Aruba, Turks and Caicos, and Florida with her great traveling companions and friends Marie and Peter Sullivan, Jeanne Sullivan, Rosalie and Richard Kelleher, and cousin Susan and husband Jack Friel. 

Maureen’s wake will be held Sunday afternoon, April 19, from 2 – 6 p.m. at Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Center St., West Roxbury 02132. Her funeral mass will be held Monday, April 20 at 11 a.m.  at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church, 4750 Washington St., West Roxbury, where Maureen and Bill got married over 53 years ago. Burial services will be done privately at a future date.
