Lois Nunez Obituary

Lois Anne (Crawford) Nunez 75, passed away at Brigham and Women Hospital the evening of March 29, 2026.  She was with her daughter, sister and niece in her final hours.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alexandra Costello (Nunez) and Patrick Costello of Alexandria, VA; her sister Carol Crawford of West Roxbury, MA; her niece, Margaret & Todd Gloo and their children, Trent & Mara Gloo all of Manlius, NY.

Lois was predeceased by her sister, Janice (Crawford) Glenn Price of NY; her brothers, Jeffrey Crawford of MA and Donald Crawford of NJ; as well as her parents, Allyn & Marguerite (Duffy) Crawford.

Her life was full of dear friends including Adrienne Korman of Jamaica Plain, MA; Marilyn Reid of Reading, MA; Beverly DeWinter of Canada; and Marita O’Sullivan, Sean, Cillian and Eamon Nolan of Chevy Chase, MD.

Lois was born in Malden, MA on May 31, 1950, one of five, and grew up in Medford, MA.  She graduated from Medford High and went onto Rutgers University in NJ and then Boston University for graduate school.  One of Lois’s greatest passions was reading so it is no surprise she spent her career in academia, first at Boston University and then at Mount Ida College.  While she moved away from Brookline in 1999, she continued to go to the Putterham Library until her final days, making friends and donating thousands of books from her own collection.

Lois loved to travel, particularly to Italy, and surrounded herself with art.  A member of the Museum of Fine Arts, she had her own studio space at her home where she created collages and painted.  But of all the things she treasured most, it was her daughter.  Sharing book recommendations, going to the beach and shopping together – Lois and Alex loved each other fiercely.

A private gathering will be held in the coming weeks for friends and family to celebrate Lois.  Contributions may be made in her honor to the Pine Street Inn. https://www.pinestreetinn.org/
