Liliya (Efimova) Frolkina

Liliya’s life story is about devotion, family, love, perseverance, and stoicism

Liliya grew up during the Second World War in the Soviet Union and became familiar with hardship and perseverance early on. Her father, Pyotyr Nicholaevich Efimov, was a respected public figure, and her mother, Aleksandra Semyonovna Vedeneeva was the one who made his success possible, tirelessly working in the background in and out of the house, keeping the family fire going. Liliya and her older brother Arcadii and her younger sister Tatyana grew up with large shoes to fill from parents’ success, and they all worked hard to advance their family’s legacy. Liliya graduated from high school with aspirations to become a chemist. She began her professional career as a pharmacist in Nizhnii Novgorod with her life long friend Lusya Gankina. 

The childhood friends, they moved to the big city to study, work, and enjoy life. During her years in Nizhnii, Liliya made it to the “wall of the most beautiful women in the city” with the picture that we are using today for this obituary. And there, in Nizhny Novgorod, Liliya met and wed a charismatic officer, German Leskovskii, with whom she had her first child, Misha. However, their seemingly perfect marriage did not last long, and within a year, Liliya came back to her family home with baby Misha. She put herself back together and started to work as a chemical engineer in a research lab at the local

Military plant. Her work focused on the innovative technologies of the time, specializing in the corrosion of precious metals used in spacecraft construction. Amidst this world of chemical science, she met a young engineer Alexander Frolkin and was captivated by his kindness, brilliant mind, as well as his incredible intellect that illuminated “after work” trivia nights. The two married and had a baby girl Natasha. The couple balanced their family life and demanding careers. Alexander advanced to the high ranks of the city administration and also taught at the aviation university. Liliya became a chief engineer at her lab. The children, Misha and Natasha, although seven years apart and with different needs and interests, were raised with the help of Liliya’s parents, who lived across the street. These years were peaceful, where Liliya and Alexander enjoyed all of life’s gifts. Misha recalled on the days and years filled with family life, careers, but also vacations to the seashore, parties, and friends. The house was always filled with singing and guitar playing as friends, Leshovi and Andronivi joined in. The rich smells of the russian kitchen permeated through every fabric of the apartment emitting its fading celebratory spirits till next occasion. Liliya was known as a generous and skillful hostess, a leading singer of romances and pop songs, and infinite round Walz dancer, until Alexander got dizzy. She was also a fashionista, who never left the house without her signature perfume, «Незнакомка», hats, scarves, and extraordinary hair arrangements. 

Liliya loved beauty in all expressions! She loved flowers and was known for her striking balcony and windowsill diplays. She was an avid gardener, mushroom picker, cook, family doctor, on call therapist for her family and friends. At a quiet moment, she loved to listen to her husband's narration of books, particularly Chechov and Gogol. She never stopped singing and woke up and went to bed with a song. Her granddaughter Anya from Misha’s marriage, remembers Liliya waking up and going to bed with a song, but making sure Anya always did her homework. 

The true scale of Liliya’s personality shone in moments of great strife, when her husband Alexander faced an aggressive cancer, and her mother’s memory began to fail. Liliya took on the role of a protector and caregiver, carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Liliya took care of her ailing mother until her passing, and she nursed her husband through cancer and beyond.

Liliya’s devotion to the family knew no boundaries or distances; when her daughter Natasha and her husband Pavel  (Pasha) moved to the United States, Liliya took months long trips across the ocean to support Natasha through graduate school to care for her daughter, Sasha.  At the time, Liliya made life long friends, Trace Hattemier and Biff Mayer, while taking care of their baby Teddy.

After her husband’s passing, Liliya finally agreed to move to the United States, where she permanently resided closeby her daughter. Here, her extraverted abilities flourished with renewed strength, making her a true socialite at her local adult daycare. At the age of 75, Liliya remained true to herself, holding singing performances, attending social gatherings, and taking various trips with newfound friends. She lived to perform on stage, flourishing in her new environment. Liliya remained an important part of her family’s life and was always there for her grandchildren; teaching her youngest granddaughter, Elizabeth, how to read and write in Russian while painting her nails, and having deep conversations with teen Sasha re meaning of life. Liliya cherished many beautiful moments with Pasha, while cooking new foods or traveling to the shore, her favorite place to be. 

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic and social isolation were a heavy trial for Liliya. Against the background of this forced quiet, her health began to decline, and her Alzhiemer’s began to progress quickly. Her final years were difficult, but these years cannot dim the radiance of her bright life.

Liliya will forever remain in the memory of her children, Misha and Natasha; her grandchildren, Anya, Alexandra, and Elizabeth; and her great grandchildren, Vladaislava, Alice, George, and Seraphima. 

We will never forget her boundless devotion to the family, her resilience, stoicism, and her incredible strength of spirit.

Liliya’s funeral service will be held on February 20, 10 am at the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St West Roxbury www.lawlerfuneralhome.com followed by a short chapel service at the Gethsemane Gardens Cemetery 670 Baker St. West Roxbury at 11:30 am. Жизненный путь Лили — это повествование о беззаветной преданности, семье, любви, стойкости и непоколебимости.

Детство Лили пришлось на годы Великой Отечественной войны. Рано познав тяготы и лишения, она с юных лет впитала дух стойкости и самоотверженности. Ее отец, Петр Николаевич Ефимов, был уважаемым общественным деятелем, а мать, Александра Семеновна Веденеева, стала той незримой силой, что обеспечила его успех, неустанно храня семейный очаг. Лиля, ее старший брат Аркадий, и младшая сестра Татьяна, росли, чувствуя высокую ответственность быть достойными семейного наследия.

Окончив школу, Лиля решила изучать химию. Свою профессиональную карьеру она начала фармацевтом в Нижнем Новгороде вместе с подругой Люсей Ганькиной. Подруги детства, и в дальнейшем, всей жизни, они перебрались в большой город, чтобы учиться, работать и вдыхать жизнь полной грудью. Именно в те годы портрет Лили украсил городскую «стену» самых красивых женщин — тот самый снимок, который мы видим сегодня.

В Нижнем Новгороде Лиля встретила харизматичного офицера Германа Лесковского. В этом браке родился ее первенец Миша. Однако этот союз был недолгим, и спустя год Лиля вернулась в родительский дом с маленьким сыном на руках. Собрав волю в кулак, она вновь обрела себя, устроившись инженером-химиком в исследовательскую лабораторию местного военного завода. Ее работа была связана с передовыми технологиями того времени — изучением коррозии драгоценных металлов, используемых в освоении космоса.

В этом мире точных наук, она встретила молодого инженера Александра Фролкина. Он покорил ее своей добротой и эрудицией,  которая так ярко проявлялась на интеллектуальных вечерах после работы. Вскоре они поженились, и в семье появилась дочь Наташа. Супруги сочетали воспитание детей с требовательной карьерой; Александр достиг высоких чинов в городской администрации и преподавал в авиационном университете. Лиля выросла до старшего инженера лаборатории.

Воспитанию детей помогали  дедушка и бабушка, жившие через дорогу. Миша с теплотой вспоминает то время: шумные праздники, дом, всегда полный друзей. Под аккомпанемент гитары семей Лещевых и Андроновых в воздухе разливались романсы. Ароматы русской кухни пропитывали каждый уголок квартиры, сохраняя дух торжества до следующего повода. Лиля слыла искусной хозяйкой, певицей задушевных романсов, и неутомимой танцовщицей, вальсировавшей до тех пор, пока у Александра не начинала кружиться голова. Она была настоящей модницей; никогда не выходила в свет без капли любимых духов «Незнакомка», без изящного шарфа или прически.

Лиля ценила красоту во всех ее проявлениях. Она обожала цветы, и ее окна и балкон всегда выделялись пышным цветением гераней. Страстный садовод, грибник, кулинар, «семейный доктор» и психолог для близких — она была всем. В редкие минуты тишины она любила слушать, как муж читает вслух Чехова или Гоголя. Песня не покидала ее никогда- она просыпалась и засыпала с мелодией на устах. Ее внучка Аня вспоминает как бабушка пела с самого утра, при этом строго следя, чтобы внучка не забывала о домашних заданиях.

Истинный масштаб личности Лили проявился в годы тяжелых испытаний, когда Александр столкнулся с агрессивной формой рака, а у ее матери начались проблемы с памятью. Лиля приняла на себя роль защитницы и хранительницы, взвалив весь груз забот на свои плечи. Она самоотверженно ухаживала за больной матерью до последнего вздоха и выхаживала мужа в самые темные времена.

Ее преданность семье не знала границ и расстояний. Когда Наташа с мужем Павлом (Пашей) переехали в США, Лиля совершала долгие перелеты через океан, чтобы поддержать дочь во время учебы в аспирантуре и помочь в воспитании внучки Саши. Даже там она успела обрести верных друзей Трейс и Биффа, заботясь об их малыше Тедди.

После кончины мужа, Лиля окончательно перебралась в Соединенные Штаты, поближе к дочери. Здесь ее природная общительность открыла второе дыхание: она стала душой компании в местном центре досуга для тех кому за …. Даже в 75 лет Лиля оставалась верна себе: выступала с концертами, посещала приемы и путешествовала с новыми друзьями. Ее новая жизнь не мешала ей быть незаменимой частью жизни своих внуков: учила младшую, Елизавету, русской грамоте, одновременно крася ей ногти, и вела глубокие беседы о смысле бытия с подростком Сашей. Она дорожила моментами, проведенными с Пашей за приготовлением новых блюд или в поездках к океану — ее самому любимому месту на земле.

К сожалению, пандемия COVID-19 и социальная изоляция стали для Лилии тяжким испытанием. В этой вынужденной тишине ее здоровье пошатнулось, и болезнь Альцгеймера начала стремительно прогрессировать. Последние годы были тяжкие, но они не в силах затмить сияние ее яркой, насыщенной жизни.

Лиля навсегда останется в сердцах своих детей, Миши и Наташи; внуков Ани, Александры и Елизаветы; и правнуков Владиславы, Алисы, Георга, и Серафимы.

Мы никогда не забудем безграничную любовь Лили к семье, ее стойкость, мужество и невероятную силу духа.
