Lala A. Szmyt Obituary
Lala Szmyt, 66, of Vernon Hills, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away July 10, 2025, surrounded by family who meant everything to her. Family always came first in her life, she gave her love and advice freely and fully. A remarkable woman of intellect, conviction, and adventure, she spoke three languages and lived across the globe. She had a sharp scientific mind and a proud career as a chemist, contributing to innovations at several pharmaceutical companies. But her greatest joy stemmed from witnessing the unfolding lives and activities of her children and grandchildren. Her warmth, brilliance, and unwavering devotion will be missed by all who knew her. She was a firecracker that couldn't be dimmed. She brought energy, laughter, and passion into every room she entered.
Lala is survived by her husband of 29 years, Eric; her children, Julia (Chad) Lukicheva, Andre Szmyt, and Elisabeth Szmyt; her grandchildren, Aviana and Luca; her brother, Alexey (Ivana) Makogonov; her nieces and nephew, Katerina, Sasha, and Nicholas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anatoly Makogonov and Mary Aliyeva, and her son Anton Lukichev.
