Joseph Maurice Durham, 42, of Plymouth, MA, passed away on July 15th. Joe was born on July 30th, 1981, in Waukegan, IL. and was raised in Barnstable, MA.
Joe graduated from Barnstable High School in 2000. At BHS, he excelled in football and track and took great joy talking about winning the Super Bowl in 1999. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. In the Marines, Joe worked as a helicopter mechanic. His service included two tours in Iraq, and he also provided aid to the Indonesians affected by the tsunami in Sumatra in 2004.
Joe had an infectious smile that would light up any room and one of his favorite things to do was make people laugh. He was always joking and making friends wherever he went. If you knew Joe, you have a story. There was nothing more important to him than his two boys, Jace and Julian. He loved them more than words can express. He loved playing sports with them and coaching their Flag Football team.
In his free time, Joe enjoyed spending time with his sons playing with his dog Oscar, listening to music, playing the harmonica and fishing.
Joe is survived by his wife, Julie Durham, and their two sons, Jace and Julian Durham; his father Fred Durham; his father-in-law, Jim Garvey; his mother-in-law, Barbara Garvey; his sisters Angie Miranda and Britney Durham; his grandmother, Lupe Valle; his service dog and best friend, Oscar Durham; along with many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joe is predeceased by his mother, Laddie Durham. Lad finally has “her Joey” back in her arms.
A memorial service will be held on Friday Sept. 13th at 11:15 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, with a celebration of life to follow immediately after. Reach out to the family for additional details.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Joe’s name to K-9’s for Warriors.
