John (Jay/Johnny) Leahy, 72 of Weymouth, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a brief period of illness. Jay was born on June 13, 1952 in Weymouth, MA, a son of the late John and Edith (Durant) Leahy. Jay graduated from Weymouth High School in 1970 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Jay served during the Post War effort in Vietnam, Germany, England, Ft. Walton Beach, FL and McGuire Airforce Base, NJ for eleven years. He returned and settled in northern Massachusetts, where he met his wife, the late Eva (Ravellette/Wessells) Leahy, with whom he enjoyed 25 years. Jay worked at Hollingsworth & Vose for 17 years, holding various positions. After his retirement, Jay moved to Rhode Island and eventually back to Weymouth, to be closer to his family. He joined the local Weymouth-Braintree Elks #2232, American Legion Post #79 and the Weymouth and Rockland Senior Centers, where he enjoyed going to meat raffles and “singo” Jay loved watching game shows, Hallmark movies and his Boston sports teams, especially the Bruins and Celtics.
Jay was one of six siblings, all sisters, including, Barbara and Alan Fuller of Beverly Hills, FL; Jean Leahy and Carol Gunzy of Bourne, MA; the late Marie and Richard St. Gelais of Westford, MA; Irene and the late Jim Lonergan of Weymouth, MA and Judy Leahy and Sonya Kamdar of Weymouth, MA. He also had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many friends, both old and new. He was a kind and gentle soul, easy to like and loved just hanging out with whoever he was with, whether it was people, dogs, cats or chickens. He will truly be missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday March 1, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.. Interment in The Massachusetts National Cemetery will be private.
