John Connors Obituary

John Joseph Connors (1932 - 2022) of Chestnut Hill, MA

Son of the late James Henry Connors and Dorothy Foley Connors, Devoted Husband of Ursula M. (Cahalan) for 66 years; and loving father to: John Jr. (Andria) of Norwood; Kathleen “Kappy” (Mark Prive) of Christmas, FL; Kevin (Jenifer) of Newburyport; Carol (Walter “Wally”) Arnold of Natick; Christa (John) Kelleher of Canton; William (AnneMarie) of Needham; Daniel of Westerly, RI; Richard (Leanne) of Millis.  “Grampa JC” to: Noelle, Claire, and Patrick Connors; Cally and Joseph Arnold; Kathleen, Jay and Shane Kelleher; Jane, Anne and Caroline Connors; and Christopher Connors.  Predeceased by his siblings: James H. Connors, Jr. (Jean); Thomas P.; M. Jane Noonan (James); Robert E. (Carolyn (“Midge”).  Also survived by Thomas’ wife Lee Connors, many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Born in Newton, MA, raised his family in Needham, then returned to Newton.

Educated at Mount Alvernia Academy, the Roxbury Latin School, Holy Cross College (NROTC) and Boston College Law School.  Served in the US Navy.  Owner with his brothers of Federal National Linen and Bell Linen Supply.  Clerk Magistrate of the Brookline District Court.

61-year member of Charles River Country Club, where he served as President in addition to serving on numerous committees.   Also past: President of the Linen Supply Association of America and of the Brookline Rotary Club; Head of the Association of Magistrates and Assistant Clerks; Board Member of the Brookline Municipal Credit Union; Member of the Black Rum Society; and Rider in the Society in Dedham for the Apprehension of Horse Thieves.   Volunteer driver for Angel Medflight medical transport.  Volunteer at funerals at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church.

Regardless of the size of the group, John regaled all those around him.  His story-telling and humor were the signature of his kindness, generosity of spirit and his goodwill. He was an avid sportsman, dabbling in a wide variety of athletic pursuits and playing multiple sports, but none as well loved as his golf game.  Golfing took him all over the country and to several international courses.  His love of travel and culture brought him to many far-away lands where he entertained the locals with his wit and charm and then gathered new material to weave into the recounting of his adventures, as he held court when he returned home.
