Jean Cadet Obituary

Jean Alfred Cadet, a life-long servant of God and friend to the world, peacefully passed away on June 10, 2025 in the presence of loved ones after an 11 year-long battle against cancer.

Born on April 17, 1946 to Morel Cadet and Marie Glorieuse Pierre in the lush, serene, coastal town of Coteaux, Haiti. He grew up as the second of 7 children. As a young man, he served as an altar boy and choir leader for the local Catholic Cathedral.

After a quiet upbringing in the countryside, he moved to the bustling capital city of Port-au-Prince in his 20’s. Soon after, he met a lovely and taciturn young lady named Jacqueline

Raphael in 1972 at the English Institution, where they were students. The two eventually formed a romantic relationship.

Around this time, Jean landed his dream job as the chief telephone technician for Teleco, Haiti’s premier telecommunication company. In this role, he was the designated tech who was called to resolve any communication issues for top governmental officials and business people. Over time, he made numerous social connections because of his strong work ethic and amiable personality. This positioned him to better assist his family.

Through his network, he helped one of his brothers find work operating heavy-duty vehicles for a state-sponsored company that built highways. Likewise, he was able to help his younger sister enroll into the official state nursing school through his relationship with the chief of the institution. Family and friends were very important to him, whether being a doting uncle to his nieces and nephews, supporting his siblings, or enjoying time with his sweetheart, Jacqueline.

His thriving relationship with Jacqueline and Bible studies led to his religious conversion to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Opportunity would eventually bring Jacqueline to the US for the 1st time. She landed in Boston, MA in 1972 and Jean followed suit in 1976. Jean made two major commitments that year - he was baptized and married Jacqueline at the Temple Salem Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The two immediately started a family. Jean Morel was born in 1977, followed by Jeany in 1979, Daniel Michael in 1981, and Jean-Robert in 1987. His eldest son from a previous relationship, Jean-Price moved to Boston from Haiti in 1993.

Jean was a long-serving and faithful member of Temple Salem SDA Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts since 1976. He forged countless relationships and helped convert numerous souls to Christ through visitations and Bible studies during his tenure as church treasurer, first elder, teacher, and community service liaison.

His legacy of benevolent service extends through the Coteaux Adventist Academy that he and Jacqueline built in 2010 to bring Christian education to the local children of his hometown of Coteaux, Haiti.

While living in America, his occupations spanned working as an assistant dishwasher at a nursing home in Newton, MA soon after migrating to Boston, then spending 11 years at the Mass Bay Service Corporation as a housekeeper. At that job, his consistent, meticulous hard work, punctuality, and reliability resulted in a promotion to become a manager after only 6 months at the job. He used his position to bring work to people in his sphere including a brother and a good friend from church. He went on to work there for 11 years. His next employment started in 1988 for the former ICBM bus service for the Boston Public Schools. He would continue driving various-sized school buses for BPS until retirement in 2011.

People were one of his most valued aspects of life. He thoroughly enjoyed everything from spontaneous visits from family or friends, fellowship with people of his church congregation, or a brief warm exchange with a stranger in public, whom he would genuinely call “my friend”.

In his quiet time, he enjoyed reading, studying scripture, relaxing in nature (especially in his garden at his home in Coteaux, Haiti), walking, playing Sudoku puzzles, listening or watching Haitian news broadcasts.

He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, his 5 children, 7 grandchildren, 6 siblings, several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
