On Thursday, May 2, 2024, Janice Alves-Jellerson passed away at the age of seventy-one. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Therese Alves, and is survived by her brother Brian Alves, her daughters Kerry Perron and Bethany Watson, and her grandchildren Hailey, Abigail, Ella, Charlotte, and Adam.
Janice spent her formative years in New Bedford and graduated from St. Anthony’s High School. She cherished her time in the north-end neighborhood, especially with her Deshaies family, who felt like siblings to her. Many evenings were filled with laughter, games, and bowling with her beloved cousins.
Known for her sharp wit, artistic talent, and fondness for Coca Cola, Janice found joy in boating, watching Western TV shows, crafting, and above all, being a grandmother. Her final chapter was spent at Sarah-Brayton Nursing Home, where she formed cherished friendships and enjoyed countless game nights.
Throughout her life, Janice battled various health issues, including a later diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Despite the challenges of treatment due to the rarity of her condition, Janice selflessly donated her body to Harvard to advance medical knowledge and hopefully bring researchers closer to a cure.
In honoring Janice's memory, her family asks that she be celebrated for the happiness she brought into the lives of others, rather than dwelling on sorrow. At her request, no formal services will be held.
