Irene Setteducati Obituary

In loving memory of our mom, who dedicated her life to our family, we love you and are so grateful for all you did for all of us.

Irene (Agostinho) Setteducati, daughter of her Portuguese immigrant, hard-working parents, Maria Serambana and Francisco Agostinho, sister to Alice Cardim, mother to two daughters, Gina (Setteducati) Tritschler-Kirnberger and Diane Setteducati and grandmother to Anna Lena, Leo, and Sophia, passed away, peacefully, at the age of 93.

After years of caring for her mother, (Vovo) in West Hartford, CT, she moved to West Roxbury to be closer to her daughter Diane.  She loved living in Boston, became a member of the YMCA and would take public transportation into Boston to go to the Boston Public Library.

Those of you who knew her, most likely only saw her hard-working attitude, dedication, commitment, and determination to do any undertaking to the best of her ability.  Her creativity came out in her sewing our clothes, tending her garden, her impeccable and stylish taste in clothing and dressing, and the wonderful meals she cooked for family and friends.

Mom pursued her secretarial degree at Bryant University in Rhode Island and worked as an Executive Assistant in a top Ad Agency in New York.   Only one year after beginning her career, Mom returned to New Bedford to care for her parents.   Mom chose to do what is right for her family, rather than put herself first, which she continued to do throughout her life.

Mom lived her values and did not waver from her beliefs. She was forthright, spoke her truths with conviction, was wise, instinctive, prudent, down-to-earth, practical, frugal, headstrong, loyal, caring, helpful and loving.  Mom taught us how to value hard work and money.   After our grandmother passed away, Mom worked as a Nanny for a few wonderful families and bestowed her patience, care, values and magic on more children.

Above all else, she was our mom.   Through the years, she never stopped caring or telling us what to do.  In the end, Mom was a caretaker, taking care of her parents, her daughters, and her grandchildren.   We could always count on Mom to be there for whatever we needed.   We will miss you, Mom.

The funeral services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or www.stjude.org/donate.
