Geraldine Montgomery Obituary

Geraldine Sousa Montgomery passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024 following a three-year battle with endometrial cancer.  Affectionately known as “Geri” to all (except her two loving children who called her “Mom”), she bravely fought cancer—for the second time—with dignity and grace.  Up to and including her last month, cancer stole half her organs but could not wrestle her spirit from her.

Born in 1941 and raised in Tiverton RI, Geri met her loving husband Rick in Newport, marrying in 1970, settling in Framingham Massachusetts, eventually moving to West Roxbury.  Geri’s spirit and passion were embodied in her children. She left her teaching career to raise them until her oldest went to Boston University.  Geri then jumpstarted a new administrative career at BU, from where both children would graduate, ensuring she kept the family close together.

Both friends and family would turn to Geri for any gift giving occasion, due to her uncanny ability to shop and find a unique, yet perfect gift for almost anyone, often purchased from a home shopping channel.  Her shopping prowess was only overshadowed by ability to keep a warm, loving household so tastefully decorated it was the envy of all.

When Geri was not curled up at home with her beloved iPad, she was spending time with her older sister, Cindy Aber, (“Tia”) from Brookline.  Geri would spend her summers relaxing at Tia’s summer house in Rhode Island, and the rest of the year in Boston enjoying lunches, theater, shopping and watching TV with Tia.

Geri is preceded in death by husband Rick and is survived by her daughter, Sarah Tomlin, son Ben Montgomery, Cindy, and her cousin Paula Camara.  Geri is also survived by Sarah’s husband Brian, Ben’s wife Kaz, Geri’s four grandchildren Aidan, Brendan, Taiyo and Hana, and several nieces and nephews—all of whom she adored.

"A mass celebrating Geri's life will be held at Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Parish at 10 a.m. on Saturday December 7, 2024.  After mass, attendees have the option of joining the family for the interment of ashes at Newton Cemetery, prior to a 1 p.m. memorial luncheon that will be held in her memory at The Stockyard restaurant in Brighton."
