Gerald MacEachern Obituary

Gerald “Mac” Bernard MacEachern, 78, passed away after a long battle with renal failure, on Wednesday afternoon, May 22, 2025.

He was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada on August 16, 1946 as the youngest of five (5) children.

At the age of twenty [20] he entered the US Airforce, serving from 1966-1970 as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist during the Vietnam War, earning National Defense Service Medal and the Airforce Good Conduct Medal. After spending over two [2] years abroad, he was Honorably discharged as Sargent First Class, and left with a life-long hearing impairment from his service.

As a civilian, he spent the majority of his career working at Panasonic as an electronics service technician, leaving to work at Mahoney’s Garden Center until his retirement.

At the center of his life was his devote faith in the Catholic religion, preferring to attend traditional Latin Mass. Throughout his life, he traveled the world visiting various religious shrines and holy places in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and former Yugoslavia. He spent time at the Vatican, Lordes, Medjugorje, and Fatima where he returned multiple times. It was clear to him that his true calling was to share the message of Our Lady in Fatima to all he met. He longed for the day the Pope would Consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, bringing Peace to the whole world.

Gerald never married nor had children of his own, but he was a loving and doting Uncle to his many nieces and nephews scattered across the country. He was also Godfather of Michele MacEachern, with whom he shared a close bond.

In 2019, he faced renal failure which was not an easy ailment to deal with, but he would tell you it is not this life he is concerned with, but rather the next life, which will last for eternity.

His dialysis team at the Jamaica Plain VA became a large part of his later life, always giving them a hard time and sharing a laugh. He faced numerous health issues, including a bad fall which landed him in West Roxbury VA for almost four [4] months in 2023. His strong faith sustained him through it all. In spring of 2025 he moved to Lakeville with Michele and her family where he spent his final weeks soaking in sunlight, cool breezes, and singing song birds.

Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Sarah and John MacEachern, sister Matilda MacEachern, sister Mary Winter, brother Dan (Peggy) MacEachern, nephew Arthur Lee Parker, niece Sarah Parker. Survived by brother John Alex (Nelly) MacEachern; nieces: Anita (Raul) Perez, Jessie Corlito, Joanna Scheunemann, Amanda (Richard) Padilla, and Michele (Cliff Avila) MacEachern; nephews: Mike (Jennie) Winter, Mark Winter, Matt Winter, and Alex (Kristina) MacEachern; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
