Francis passed away at the Chelsea Soldiers Home on the evening of 2/10/2021 surrounded by family and loved ones after a long struggle with dementia.

 

Francis was born on 8/3/1949 in Saugus Massachusetts as the second of eight children to Ruth and Gordon Jensen. Francis grew up in Saugus Massachusetts and was a graduate of Saugus High School in 1968.

 

Francis enlisted in the US Army after graduating from high school. He was a paratrooper in the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in war.

 

After discharge he returned home to Massachusetts. He married Nancy Harnden (1975). They had two children Matthew (1984) and Catherine (1986). He earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Lowell (1980). He later became a master plumber and was a member of a local plumbers union.

 

His main passions included jogging, biking, swimming and hiking. In his 50’s he and his best friend Walter Guthrie hiked the Appalachian Mountain Trial beginning in Georgia. He practiced meditation twice daily for peace and comfort.

 

Francis was an extroverted person and he enjoyed sharing connections. He was blindly loyal to the lucky people who he cared for. He was a loving grandfather, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

 

Francis is predeceased by brothers James Jensen and Harold Jensen. Francis is survived by his son Matthew Jensen of Everett. His daughter Catherine Thompson, son-in-law Andrew Thompson and granddaughters Lydia & Morgan Thompson of Gardner. His mother Ruth Jensen of Saugus. His siblings Karen Ranahan of Lynn; Deborah Drago & brother-in-law Frank Drago of Middleton, New Hampshire; Diane Jensen of Saugus; Michael Jensen & sister-in-law Anita Jensen of Bellingham and Mary Jo Jensen of Saugus. He additionally is survived by a large extended family and many longtime friends.

 

Francis will be buried at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, family requests, donations be made in Francis’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
