Eusthathios "Stathis" Zapherios Stratis
February 20, 1950 ~ March 11, 2025 (age 75)
Eusthathios (Stathis, AKA Thomas) Zapherios Stratis, of Salem, MA, passed away in Marblehead on March 11, 2025, with his devoted sister and caregiver, Evmorphia, by his side.
Born in Everett, MA, Stathis was the first-born and oldest son of the late Costas and Olympia (Gochis) Stratis. He graduated from Everett High School, attended Massachusetts College of Art, and earned his Masters from San Francisco State University in Physical Education with a Dance Emphasis and Creative Arts.
Dance and movement were Stathis’ lifelong passion. During his time teaching Greek folk dance, ballroom, jazz, and tango from Montessori schools and Universities in the U.S. to the island of Rhodes, Greece, he gained an international community of student followers.
Stathis had a zest for life, a huge heart, and beautiful smile that would instantly make a stranger a friend. He was kind and generous, with a strong belief in social justice that informed every aspect of his life.
Stathis is survived by his sister, Evmorphia Stratis, younger sister, Theodora Stratis and husband Alexander Pancic, and brother Zachary Stratis. He was the loving Uncle of Zoe and Leonidas Pancic, and adored his many relatives and friends throughout the U.S. and Greece. He will truly be missed.
A private graveside service will be held at the Garden of Gethsemane in West Roxbury. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
