Ellen Good Obituary

Ellen C. Good of Dorchester and Dover died peacefully on January 26, 2025 with her family at her side.  She was born in Boston, MA in 1933 to Joseph and Ida (Colpoys) McDonough.  After graduating from Notre Dame Academy Roxbury, where she made life-long friends, she went on to earn a B.A. from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and a J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1957.  While in Law School, Ellen met her husband Albert who predeceased her.  They were happily married for 59 years.

Ellen had an active career as an attorney.  She was the first woman to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County and continued practicing law until her retirement in 2007.  Ellen enjoyed spending summers with her family in Scituate, MA.  An avid reader, she enjoyed a variety of literature, and she was often found with her nose in a book.  She had a curious mind and a wonderful sense of humor. 

Ellen had 5 children and is survived by 4 of them.  Her daughter, Ellen (deceased) and her husband Joseph Carr of Cumberland, RI; her son, Albert and his wife Catherine of Westwood; her daughter, Irene and her wife Theresa of West Roxbury; her daughter, Marie Long of Maynard; and her son, Francis and his wife Denise of Millis.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren Brendan Carr, Colleen Chapruet, Brian Carr, Albert Good, Elizabeth Good, Ellen Long, Michael Long, Jack Good, Nathalie Good, and Danny Good, as well as 3 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held in the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St, West Roxbury, on Friday, January 31, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 28 Commonwealth Ave, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467, on Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
