Eleanor Letterie Obituary

Eleanor (Toohey) Letterie died peacefully at Boston Medical Center on August 22, 2025. Formerly of Roslindale, MA, she also lived in Norwood, MeIrose and Osterville. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Thomas and Rita (Good) Toohey. A graduate of Notre Dame Academy, she received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and a Masters in Nursing Administration from Boston University. She worked at the Brigham and Women and Veterans Hospital in Boston. After leaving Boston, she made several career moves, working in Covina, CA, Seattle, WA, and Philadelphia, PA. She held a variety of administrative positions in hospitals prior to moving into managed health care. She later founded a nationally certified medical credentialing and consulting company. In the year 2000, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her company, she treated herself to an Opera Tour in Italy and met her future husband at the airport. After she married, she closed her company and worked as a SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) counselor and did occasional consulting work in the medical-legal field. She leaves behind her brother Peter Toohey and his wife Karen of Harrison, ME, her sisters Lee DeStefano of Plymouth, MA, Mary Lynch and her husband Derek of Centerville, MA, and Joane Thompson of Daytona Beach, FL. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Louis, her sister Rita Hefferan, and her brother Thomas Toohey. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by 19 nieces and nephews and many cousins, relatives and dear friends.

Professional Summary

Prior to founding CSI Network, Inc, in 1991, a health care consulting and NCQA certified credentials verification organization, Ms. Letterie was Director of the medical delivery system for several CIGNA Health plans. Consultant experience included project management for large and small health care organizations, new program development and database design. She consulted in all areas of health care with a particular focus on evaluation of medical delivery design.

Before her managed care experience, Ms. Letterie held several key positions in hospitals, including the number two position in a 350-bed community hospital and a 600 bed Harvard teaching hospital. Ms. Letterie held positions as senior faculty and clinical professor in addition to publishing several health care articles.

Hospital experience includes administrative positions at Providence Medical Center, Seattle, WA, Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

In addition to her Administrative and Consulting experience, she served as a Board Member for a local Boston College Alumni Association; provided expert witness testimony in medical-legal cases and worked with grass roots community organizations to develop community-based programs and services.

Ms. Letterie was a member of The Town of Barnstable Council on Aging. She was a certified SHINE Counselor and worked with Medicare Beneficiaries and theirfamilies at the Barnstable Senior Center.

A funeral mass will be held at Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 11:00am. Followed by a luncheon at West On Centre, 1732 Centre Street.
