Edward J. Hughes, Jr. "Ed" passed away peacefully on February 2, 2023, at the age of 76 after a long illness. Edward was born to the late Edward J. Hughes, Sr. and late Mary R. (Cotter) Hughes in Boston on March 26, 1946. He was predeceased by his older brother and best friend Gerard C. Hughes. Edward is survived by his sister Kathleen Sixt (Hughes) and her husband Norman Sixt and their children, whom he loved very much and of whom he was very proud: Christopher Sixt of Enfield, CT, Gregory Sixt of Medford, MA, and Shannon Sixt-Parda of Ferrisburgh, VT. Edward also leaves great nephews and a niece. Edward was a lifelong resident of West Roxbury, MA, the town that he was very proud of, loved, and lived in for many years. He graduated from Catholic Memorial High school where he enjoyed playing a variety of sports at which he excelled. He played football and received the honor of being all Catholic and all Scholastic. After graduation he attended and graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1968 and worked as a pharmacist in West Roxbury and Brookline, MA. He then went on to continue his education and graduated from Suffolk Law School in Boston in 1975 with a JD degree. At the beginning of his career, he worked in the Attorney General’s Office in Boston and then went on to work as a lawyer in the field of Workers’ Compensation law for many years. He was highly regarded and recognized for his diligent work. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Name Church on Saturday, May 13, at 11:00 am.
