David Plathe Jr. Obituary

David Plathe was born 5 weeks premature on June 22, 1980 weighing 5 pounds 12 ounces.  He was rushed to Children’s Hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit and stayed there for one week and then went to Beth Israel Hospital’s intensive care unit.  He eventually thrived and was able to go home once he reached 5 pounds.  He was a healthy, happy baby despite the fact he never slept.  He went for many walks with his mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin during his first year many times just so he would sleep.  He graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy as a plant facility engineer.  His first job was for a Virginia company, Contrak, International where his adventures began.  He worked in Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, and Dubai.  He traveled all across Europe, the Middle East and Asia and parts of Africa.

David was a smart, fun-loving adventurer and lived life to the fullest.  He was always up for the next challenge.  From the time he was a child he always had to do things the hard way.  He had to climb the monkey bars to the highest level possible just to see if he could.  He would do things even when told not to and then suffer the consequences, just to see if he could.  This would not prevent him from doing the same thing or something equally dangerous the next time.  He would not get hurt though he would pave the way for his younger brother who would inevitably get hurt doing the same thing.  This invincibility stayed with David and he thought he could do anything and never have any repercussions.  When he was in Indonesia he jumped off a roof and broke his foot but continued his travels through Indonesia and Thailand on his broken foot and then flying to Europe to travel with his brother.  Nothing would stop him from having a new adventure and to learn new things.

He was working for Cushman and Wakefield at the time of his death at the age of 39.  He died peacefully in his sleep on November 26, 2019.  He will be deeply missed by his mother Kim LaDue, his father, David Plathe, Sr. and stepmother, Marlene Plathe, his brother, Nicholas Plathe and his sister-in-law, Laura Carroll and nephew James, his two grandmothers, Mary Plathe and Annette LaDue.  He will also be missed by his many aunts and uncles and cousins.
