Dana Osborne Obituary

Dana Alan Osborne, 82, (January 31, 1941 - November 15, 2023) passed away peacefully in the company of family after a long and persistent struggle with his health. He passed determined to improve his quality of life, whatever it took, and unafraid of the risks posed by his present condition.

Dana was many things over the course of his life. He was born in 1941 in Lewiston, the son of Ralph and Beatrice Osborne. He grew up in Lewiston and Chelsea, Maine before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1958 and attaining the rank of Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Third Class aboard the Essex-class aircraft carrier, USS Antietam. He was married to Judith Osborne (née McDonald) in 1963 with whom he had two children, Micheal Parker (née Osborne) and Aaron Osborne. Dana worked at Hildreth Press in Bristol, Connecticut for three years until he moved back to Maine and began working as a painter. He started “Colonial Painters,” a professional house painting business and painted homes and businesses around Maine for more than five decades. In the winter months, he plowed snow from the seat of his pickup up until the last winter of his life.

More than simply a “painter”, Dana was an artist in many respects. He was particularly fond of using his skills to restore his roadside finds back to life and making them “brand new”. He was also a prankster and was quick to see the humor in any situation. No event was too somber or serious if he was in company. He enjoyed morning coffee with his closest friend, Larry Staples, watching Red Sox and Patriots games, vegetable gardening, feeding birds and watching wildlife, going out for ice cream, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and working on projects in his shop.

Dana is survived by his wife, Judith Osborne, his daughter, Micheal Parker and her husband Steven, his son, Aaron Osborne and his wife Kendra, his 10 grandchildren, Danielle, McKenzie, and Logan Parker, Connor, Cameron, and Collin Osborne, and Brandon, Kasey, Samantha, and Dylan Cummings, and his four great grandchildren, Viola, Edmund, Wilhelmina, and Ryder. He is also survived by his brother Allen and his wife Marcia Tuttle and numerous nieces and nephews.
