Carmel O'Neil Obituary

 

Carmel Elbery O’Neil, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Centerville, MA on May 20, 2020 after a long courageous battle with cancer.  Carmel was born August 17, 1928 in Cambridge, MA to William Paul and Mary Jane Elbery.  Growing up in Cambridge, she attended Mount St Joseph Academy, Regis College and Framingham State College from where she earned her education degree.

 

Carmel was the loving wife of John J “Jack” O’Neil for 55 years who predeceased her in 2006.  Carmel and Jack resided in Dedham, MA; Rumford, RI; West Hyannisport and finally Centerville, MA. 

 

Carmel and Jack were the proud parents of 5 children, Jane Ruse (Duane) of Concord, MA; Sean O’Neil (Cathy) of Hyannis Port, MA; Diane Collins (Joseph) of Barrington, RI; Timothy O’Neil (Nell) of Richmond VA and Owen O’Neil (Leslie) of Hingham, MA.  Carmel is also survived by her brother William Elbery and sister Claire Probst.  Carmel viewed among her greatest blessings her fourteen grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

A private burial service will take place at St Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA.  The family will celebrate Carmel’s life at a time to be determined later this summer in a Catholic Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, MA.
