The Great King Bernard Solomon, 81 “forever 18”, of Framingham, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 27, 2024. He was born in Canaan, Tobago on April 21, 1943 to the late Phillip and Attis Solomon.
Bernard was also known as Daddy, Papa, Pops, Chappy and Bernie. He loved getting together with family to celebrate birthdays, holidays and good weather. During our get-togethers, he would always ask if the Celtics are playing and we would have to put the game on even if the Patriots game was already on. Bernard enjoyed listening to soca, calypso and pan music, putting together puzzles and framing them and playing the steel drums. He played the tenor or the double tenor pan for Silver Stars, New Dimension and Boston Jammers. Let’s not forget, he played All Fours (card game) and dominoes too. He enjoyed traveling back home to visit family and friends during the Carnival season and loved attending the Kings and Queens competitions and Panorama events. When Bernard came to Boston in 1967, he worked at the Hebrew Jewish Hospital. He also worked at Herb Connolly Buick before going to General Motors in Framingham. He retired from Jamaica Way Towers after being there for 25 years. On the side, he painted houses and apartments and was a handyman.
He leaves behind his wife of almost 55 years, Grace, his children- Deborah (deceased), Karen of Trinidad, Bernadette, Christopher, Briana and husband, Heitor; and Brittaney and husband, Francisco of Massachusetts; his siblings- Vaughn, Gotlyn, Marilyn, Joy, Ann and Gale of Tobago, Barbara and Merle of California and June of Georgia.
His nephews- Patrick Peter, Vance Jr., Deron, Curtis and Vaughncito.
His nieces- Michelle and Denise.
His grandchildren – Noel, Kareem, Grace, Brendon and his wife, Samantha, the late Jamila, Aswad, Sharonda, Sabrea, Indhira, India, Aaliyah, Benjamin, Joao, Juliano, Jasmine, Aniyah, Mia, and Sisco.
His great-grandchildren – Ma’Rya, Re’Von, Ja’Mir, Tarrell, Brendon, Tommy, Jayla, Cardell, DeShaun, Serenity, Ni’Kirah, Kaine and Kayonni.
Bernard was also a cousin of the Trims.
