Andrea McGrath, daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, friend to all, and impact-investing thought leader … passed away this week at the too-young age of 56. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and vision, both personally and professionally, that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Andrea was smart, passionate and giving. She was often in Annapolis visiting her mother Patricia. Angie was the “cool aunt” to her many nieces and nephews sharing her love, laughter, and adventurous spirit with them. Andrea always had a smile on her face, and her positivity was infectious. Though she called Boston home, Andrea’s heart extended to many places. She treasured visiting her mother, Patricia, in Annapolis, Maryland, and was a regular visitor to her favorite cities—London, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and New York—each holding special memories and friendships she cultivated along the way.
Andrea was passionate about her work in the impact investing space, founding Amplified Impact, a strategic advisory and research firm that helped inform, strengthen, and accelerate the impact of mission-driven entrepreneurs, executives, and organizations. She was a board member for organizations such as New England Impact Investing Initiative, International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy, Conscious Capitalism and many others. Andrea volunteered for MassChallenge, The Social Innovation Forum and others.
Andrea earned her undergraduate degree from Boston College, her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut and her Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School. She was an active alumna, cherishing the lifelong friendships she made during her studies and the opportunities to give back to her alma maters.
The daughter of William T. McGrath, Andrea is survived by her mother, Patricia of Annapolis, sister Faith of Branford, CT; brother Joe and his wife Kathy of Lomita, CA; brother Dave and his wife Kim of Hull, MA; brother John and his wife Maggie of Annapolis, MD. She was the aunt of Mikayla, Abby, Stefanie, Kate, James and George.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 15th at St. Ignatius Church, 28 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, at 12:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury, followed by a luncheon, to which all are welcome.
In Andrea’s memory, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, an organization dedicated to cancer research and care, a cause close to Andrea’s heart. Contributions can be made at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Donation Page. https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/
Andrea’s legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
