Vidar Haugland, 72, passed away Saturday morning, October 13, 2018. He died peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer. Vidar was born on March 22, 1946 in Bergen Norway. Vidar (known by many as Papa) served in the United States Army Heavy Infantry as a 106MM Recoilless Rifle gunner. He received recognition for being an expert marksman. In addition to being a devoted and loving father and grandfather, Papa was a pilot and avid Aviation enthusiast, a love that he passed on to his son, David. He is also well known in his hometown of Bergen for his guitar playing skills. Vidar is predeceased by his son Matthew Haugland. He is survived by his mother Ingeborg Haugland of Os, Norway, Cathy Burns of Norwood, son David Haugland of Sharon, step-son James Burns, grandson Ethan, granddaughter Ava, sister Gro Paulsen, brothers Glenn and Alan Haugland of Os, Norway as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services for Vidar will be held at the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury on Wednesday October 17th from 4pm-8pm. Friends and family are invited to the home of David Haugland afterwards at 37 Essex Road Sharon, MA. In Lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Special Olympics or American Cancer Society.
