Obituary

Sheryl Renné Dailey, the eldest daughter of the late Alfred Dailey, a US Navy retired serviceman and Helen K. Dailey, a cosmetologist and foster care parent, was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 23, 1952.  Renné passed into Eternal Life on February 8, 2022. Her life was an expression of love, peace, and gratitude, that was enlightened with a deep spiritual relationship with God.  Above all else, Renné was devoted to her family, friends and community.  She shared joyful stories about her parents, siblings, and growing up in "The Wild West!" She was baptized and dedicated her life to Christ at Faith Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Her laughter was frequent and infectious. It never mattered what was going on, whenever Renné flashed her gorgeous, magical smile, everyone in her presence felt warmth and happiness.  Renné was extremely intelligent, possessed a witty sense of humor, and managed to 'Send Light & Love during all of life's encounters. She'd often say, "I'm putting everything in Divine Order, setting good intentions, and releasing outcome."

Renné came to Boston in August, 1970 to attend Boston University (BU). She nurtured lifelong friendships and thrived as a student and social justice activist. As an influential member of BU's 'Golden Decade'—a period from 1969-1979 when hundreds of African-American students were enrolled for the first time at BU, a prestigious, private university—Renné served two consecutive terms as President of Umoja, Boston University's African-American Student Union.  She studied at Northeastern University, then, completed her Master's Degree in Special Education at Cambridge College. As a spiritual leader, Renné was a Reverend of Universal Life Church, and led Sunday services for the radio show "Soul Mind Body Medicine" by Dr. Zhi Gang Sha".  Truly a lifelong learner, Renné earned her Reality Therapy Certification, Neuroscience Practitioner Certification, Massachusetts Real Estate Brokers Licensure, and a dissertation shy of her Ph.D.

After graduating from BU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1974, Renné worked at Fernald State School as a Psychologist, then, became a paraprofessional educator in Boston Public Schools (BPS). Her engaging interpersonal style, outstanding teaching ability, balanced with her natural love for young children, inspired the rapid advancement of Renné's career in BPS as an Early Childhood, Special Education Teacher at the Dever and Blackstone Elementary Schools.  Her tireless work ethic fostered miracles in the lives of early childhood students both in her classroom and in students' homes.  After ten years in the classroom, she became an Early Childhood Special Education Liaison, based at the Mattahunt School.  In this role, Renné dedicated her expertise to toddlers and their families at home, or, in community child-care centers.  Affectionately calling them, "My babies", Renné provided individualized, whole-child assessments, parent and teacher training sessions and more.  She personally helped hundreds of parents enhance their child's development at home and advocate for quality educational placements.  Her life's commitment was to make sure every child reached its full potential.  A pioneer in early childhood special education, Renné also mentored teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, and school/district leaders.  She served as Co-Chair of the Boston Public Schools Rollins Griffith Teacher Center, and, worked tirelessly as a Massachusetts State Department of Early Childhood Coalition Board Member.

Renné was preceded into eternal life by her parents, Alfred and Helen K. Dailey, and her sister, Cassandra Kay Beckles.  Renné is survived by her partner of 35 years, Babbles Tony Powell; her sister, Tonya English (Charles Jr.); her brother, Randy Carter, Sr; her brother-in-law, Ed Beckles; her nephews, Matthew Beckles, Randy Carter, Jr., and Charles English, III; her nieces, Kendall Beckles and Marrisha Carter; and her Erma Jean Riding (Julian) and Etta Pearl Johnson.  Renné's spiritual energy lives on in the hearts of numerous cousins, relatives, friends, colleagues and the entire Boston community.
