Ruth Cheney
(Cheney) Wyman
August 9, 1925 – June 22, 2025
Ruth Cheney Wyman (August 9, 1925 - June 22, 2025) passed away in her 100th year at her home in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Ruthie, as she was known to her many young and old friends, was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her intellect, thoughtfulness, storytelling, laugh and even worrying will be missed by her four children, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was an avid reader of history, never forgetting dates or the names of patriots and traitors. As a volunteer for the Museum of Fine Arts, she led bus tours of Boston entertaining passengers with her vivid storytelling and memory of little known facts. She helped preserve history for future generations as President of the Massachusetts Society of the Colonial Dames, member of the National Society, and her responsibility for Gunston Hall, home of George Mason, in Virginia. At the bridge table, she was a formidable opponent and a gracious partner. In her last year, she often asked, "What can I do to help?" and "I'm just fine, but how are YOU?" Predeceased by Franklin Wyman, Jr., her husband of sixty years and President of Bailey's Ice Cream, she did appreciate a single scoop of peppermint stick with chocolate sauce.
