Ronald “Ron” D. DiMatteo, of Boston, MA passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026.
After graduating from Roslindale High School, Ron served in the Army, then had a long career as a Master Plumber in the city of Boston, member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 12, worked on the new John Hancock building, other city projects and Tufts University. He would frequently offer his skills to help others with their home renovation projects and questions.
Ron was known for his humorous and adventurous spirit. As an outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed backpacking, biking, hiking, and rock climbing. He found great pleasure in cooking and gardening, regularly sharing the bounty of both with loved ones.
Ron is survived by his beloved family: his children Christine Mason (Fletcher), Ronald DiMatteo Jr.; grandchildren Kathleen DiMatteo, Ronald DiMatteo, M. Katherine Mason, and John (Jack) Mason; sisters Geraldine Sprague (John), Marianne DiMatteo, Nancy DiMatteo, Susan DiMatteo (Mary Flaherty); along with 8 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Orlando DiMatteo; his sisters Kathleen Donahue and Margaret Cenzano, and his brother William DiMatteo.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall to honor Ron's memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Boston Home, his last residence where he received exemplary care and led a fruitful life, Parkinson’s Foundation or Appalachian Trail Conservancy, causes that were all near and dear to his heart.
