McGovern, Robert Edward, born September 18, 1918 in Brighton Mass, Robert was the oldest brother of 5. He is predeceased by his wife, Charlotte and his 2 brothers, Eddie and Gerry and 2 sisters, Mae and Eileen. He is survived by his 4 children, Robert McGovern Jr and his wife Kim of Hatfield, Susan McGovern of Scituate, MA, Patricia McGovern of Harpswell, ME and Kevin McGovern and his wife Barbara of Orrs Island, ME. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Christina Jeffrey and Jose Cure, Brittany McGovern, Colin and Taylor McGovern, Travis Oldefendt, Tiffany and Tracy Jenkins and many wonderful nieces and nephews and a great granddaughter on the way. Robert (AKA Bob, Papa, Dad) was a graduate of Boston College, class of 1940 and a member of Columbia University's "90 Day Wonders"..where after 3 months of training, he became a commissioned officer in the US Navy. He served in the Pacific and on a leave from the Navy, married his sweetheart, Charlotte. His career began in Boston as a realtor/appraiser, and he retired from the Boston Redevelopment Authority where he was the Real Estate Director. With a GI loan and dreams of a house of his own, he built his home in Jamaica Plain where he raised his family and lived for 67 years. Golf was his only real "fun" activity outside of family life. He was a member of the Ross League at the George Wright golf course (where he managed to get four holes in one.) He loved his neighbors on "the hill" and all their animals. He kept a supply of dog cookies by his front door for any four-footed visitors. His accomplishments professionally pale in comparison to the man he was. He had a quick wit and an obsession with helping others. He was a fighter, for himself and for anyone he felt was being treated unfairly. He opened his heart and his mind to a changing world, so different from the one he grew up in. He embraced all people without judgement. He will be missed but never forgotten and if he were here, he would hug and thank the wonderful Haitian and Dominican women who cared for him and his wife over the last 10 years and the neighbors who were always there to lend a hand. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 7, at 10:00 am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hour in the Robert J.
