Desmond, Rita (Dunford) of Roslindale, MA, born in Holyoke MA, in her one hundredth year, November 29, 2016. Wife of the late Joseph W. Desmond. Loving mother of Ramona (Breed), Kathleen "Kitty" Desmond, and the late Patricia Desmond and Joseph L. Desmond (wife Pamela Peterson). Also survived by her devoted friend Lynn Worley, eight grandchildren, Robertson, Sarah, Amie, and Hannah Breed, Jenee Desmond-Harris, Maureen Davis, Jillian and Ben Desmond, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous beloved members of the extended Desmond/Pieri/Lyons families. Rita graduated from Robert B. Brigham Hospital School of Nursing in 1937 and practiced nursing there until her retirement in 1981. She loved to dance and was an avid swimmer. She was an 80 year fan of the Boston Red Sox. She was an active resident and inspiration to her peers at Longfellow House in Roslindale. The family wishes to show their appreciation for the care she received at the Mount Pleasant Home and at the Armenian Nursing and Rehab Center, both in Jamaica Plain. Visiting hours in The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY from 9:30-10:30 am on Monday morning December 5th, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Holy Name Church in West Roxbury at 11:30 am. Internment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, followed by fellowship at the Pleasant Cafe. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
