Richard H Kent, 87, of Rowley Mass, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Anna Jaques Hospital due to complications of lung disease.

Richard was born July 10, 1935  to Howard L Kent and Anna O Bottari  both of Rowley, Mass.

He graduated from Newburyport High School and shortly after graduating he married Eleanor L Knowles of Rowley. They had two children, daughter Marie and Son Michael. They divorced in 1969, and he was predeceased by her.

Richard lived a full life, and was never afraid to take a chance. He began his journey by digging clams. He then changed his career to racing trotters with his stable name "Bushel of Gold". During his 40 plus years as a owner, trainer, driver he  won awards and broke records, at race tracks  from Maine to Florida, but mostly at Foxboro Raceway.

Upon retiring from the horse racing industry, He returned to Rowley.  He then had a successful seafood business selling seafood at a rotary in Manchester, NH.

Richard passed away surrounded by his immediate family, his daughter Marie Doyle and her husband Michael, his son Michael Kent and his grandson Alex Kent. His niece, Donna Kent-Twombly was also present, as she was very instrumental in helping him keep his independence for as long as possible.

He is survived by his siblings, sister Barbara (Prest) Gasper of Haverhill,  brother Donald and his wife Ann of Rowley and sister Marlene Norton and her husband James of Hampton NH.

Richard is most remembered by his wit and his sense of humor.  He loved talking with people and sharing his experiences during his horse racing career. He always had a good story.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  To honor his love of animals, donations in his honor may be made to ASPCA.
