Grimmer, Patricia (Espelin), aged 73, of West Roxbury, passed away on January 4, 2024 following a long illness.

Patricia was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Francis (Zep) and Catherine (Nolan) Espelin. Patricia was also predeceased by her brother Francis (Butch) Espelin, Jr.

Patty, as she was best known, leaves behind her daughter Julie, son-in-law Lenny Washburn and her beloved granddaughter Christa Washburn. Patty also leaves her nephews Christopher and Matthew Espelin and her niece Elena (Espelin) Lawson, as well as many cousins.

Patty graduated from Kennedy High School in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1968. She permanently relocated to Boston in the 1980s as a single mother and she worked hard for many years as a General Helper for BTE at the Prudential Center until she was injured. She assisted with plumbing, masonry and other trades and fought for this position at a time when women struggled to find their place in these professions. At one time, she could be found operating the jackhammer on the Prudential Center plaza.

Following her back injury, she went to college at age 42 and received her Associate's Degree. She then worked two jobs for many years as a Medical Assistant at Dedham Medical Associates (Dedham and Norwood) and at Gynecology Partners (Weston).

Patty was smart and strong and maintained her sarcastic sense of humor until the end. She battled many health challenges and endured a lot of pain throughout her life. She managed it all the best that she could. May her soul finally be at peace.

Immediate services are private, but a memorial service will be planned for a future date. Donations can be made in Patty's honor to the Brookline Senior Center (brooklineseniorcenter.org) or to the charity of your choice.
