Nilay Kumar Roy of Newton passed away peacefully at home on September 6th, 2020, surrounded by his family. Nilay, the cherished son of Pranab and Smita Roy, was born in Mumbai India. Nilay along with his wife Roopali immigrated to the U.S. to pursue a graduate degree, and subsequently settled in Newton, MA in 2006. He is survived by his mother Smita, wife Roopali, beloved daughter Nikita and younger sister Niyati Shah (Chennai). Nilay will be remembered fondly as a dutiful son, devoted husband and father, loving brother, and loyal friend.

Nilay was a passionate physicist and computer scientist who loved teaching. He greatly enjoyed taking long drives on scenic New England roads in his beloved Beetle convertible, enjoying time out with friends and family, and watching action movies in the IMAX theater. Nilay approached  life with deep and strongly held spiritual beliefs. He was a convinced Jain who felt very connected to all forms of life and strove to do no harm to any living creature.

Nilay wished to be commemorated with a simple ceremony. His cremation service will be held as a private event on September 10, 2020. A memorial will be held at a later date to celebrate his life and spirit with fond memories. His family thanks everyone for their love and support.
