Obituary

September 2, 1948 – June 15, 2026

Nadezhda Yagoda passed away peacefully at Tufts Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born in Pyriatyn, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine, she soon moved with her family to Krasnogorskaya stanitsa in Stavropol Krai, Russia. She dreamed of being a medical doctor and entered a medical institute in Stavropol, where she met her love, Aleksandr; they married on September 3, 1971.

Nadezhda practiced as a pediatric ENT surgeon for many years and served as a docent at the Department of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology until 2015. She was known not only for her skill with children's ear, nose, and throat conditions but also for making even frightened young patients feel safe and cared for through her immense patience and kindness.

After retiring from medicine, Nadezhda found quiet joy tending her garden and oil painting – creating still lifes of flowers, landscapes of places that moved her, and other works over many years. The paintings have filled several albums, standing as a testament to a steady hand and patient eye. She recently moved to Stow, Massachusetts, to be closer to her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Aleksandr; sons Anton and Sergey; daughter-in-law Nina; grandchildren Avrora, Nikita, and Simon; as well as numerous relatives, friends, patients, former students, and colleagues whose lives she touched.

Funeral services will take place at The Holy Epiphany Russian Orthodox Church, 963 South St., Roslindale on Thursday, June 18, at 4:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend.

Interment will follow on Friday, June 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery (36 Gleasondale Rd., Stow, MA), after which guests are invited to the family home to share memories of Nadezhda. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Holy Epiphany Russian Orthodox Church in her memory or to the charity of your choice.
