Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Mary A. McCormick of West Roxbury, Massachusetts, and Moultonborough, New Hampshire. Mary passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 2, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born on May 5, 1938, in Dorchester, Mary lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and community.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late John McCormick for 54 years and the devoted mother of five children: Michael McCormick of West Roxbury; Kathy Morrill and her husband, Ernie, of Middletown, Rhode Island; Robert McCormick of West Roxbury; Ann Flynn and her husband, Rick, of Dedham, and the late infant Bartholomew McCormick. She shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories with her family, from summers and winters up the lake in New Hampshire to days spent at the “cottage” in Marshfield.

She was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Mary Quirk of Dorchester and the dear sister of the late Ruth McCann of Norwood, Dorothy Moran of Braintree, and Robert Quirk of Marshfield. Mary was the proud and loving Granny of Caitlin, Tommy, and Matthew, and a kind-hearted Auntie to her many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and earned her undergraduate degree from Emmanuel College and her graduate degree from Radcliffe College. She began her career as a mathematics teacher at Boston Technical High School before stepping away from the profession to devote herself to raising her family.

Throughout her life, Mary remained deeply committed to education, faith, and service. She generously shared her time and talents as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, a Bernardine and CCD teacher at Holy Name Parish, and a dedicated volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. Later, she returned to the field of education, working with adult learners pursuing their GEDs and helping countless students achieve their diplomas.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre Street, West Roxbury, on Thursday, June 11, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary's life will be held at Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre Street, West Roxbury, on Friday, June 12, at 10:00 AM. with a repast to follow at the West on Centre.

Mary's warmth, generosity, faith, and dedication to others will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
