Obituary

Our Matriarchy Maria Luisa Herrera, affectionately known as "Guicha," passed with peace and grace on August 1, 2020, at her residence in Jamaica Plain at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her husband Jose H. Acajabon, her mother Maria Garciela and her father Jose Herrera. She is survived by three brothers and four sisters. She was a proud, selfless and devoted mother to two daughters Brenda and Miriam Acajabon. She will be celebrated for not only being an amazing grandmother to seven grandchildren- Jacqueline and Bryan Molina, Michelle Acajabon, Giovanny, Stephanie and Jonny Martinez, , Adrian Velasquez; but also an extraordinary great grandmother to eight great-grandchildren: Brandon, Zavier and Adlemy Baez
Molina, Brenda, Zoey, Leonardo, Natalia and Julian Martinez.
Guicha was born on June 21, 1941, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, daughter to Graciela
and Jose. She basked in countless of life's most joyous moments, despite the mountain high
obstacles. She raised her two daughters with love and tenderness. She was warm-hearted to all
people she encountered, sharing her love and light with everyone through acts of kindness, and
her mere zest for life. Guicha was a visionary and her tenacity, courage, and unwavering
determination for a better future made her the first in her family to venture to the United States. This decision positively altered the trajectory of many and propelled over 100 family members and friends. She will always be celebrated for being a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and confidant. We are blessed to have experienced her greatest virtue: being dedicated to helping others. Her life exemplified the Bible verse, Ecclesiastes 3:12, "I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one's lifetime." She will be missed dearly. Please join us in the celebration of her life. "In addition to the viewing, we invite you to the accompany us on Thursday, August 6th at 8:30 am as we drive by Maria's former home in JP. Guicha's last escort will start at the funeral home and drive through Jamaica Plain, returning to Saint Micheal's for the cremating process. No actual viewing of the process will be had, but this would be the final good bye to our beloved Guicha. " Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury, MA.
