Jorge
Russell
October 11, 1944 – October 25, 2021
Jorge (Paco) Alejandro Russell, age 77, died Monday, October 25, 2021, at his home in the Bay Village neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. Born in the Republic of Panama on October 11, 1944, he was the elder child of Maria Secudina Sanchez Russell and George Russell. When his sister Elda was a toddler, the family moved to the United States and settled in the Jamaica Queens neighborhood of New York City.
Jorge graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and attended City College of New York, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career in 1967 at General Dynamics. Two years later, he was employed by General Electric Company, where he worked for 43 years. He retired in 2012 as a Business Analyst with accolades crediting his IT tools as the backbone of a proprietary materials management process and kudos for routinely exceeding performance goals.
During his tenure at GE, Jorge also co-owned and managed Claire House, a gift shop in Marblehead, MA, with his life partner and educator William (Bill) H. O'Donnell, Jr. In the mid-1990s, they closed the shop, sold their waterfront home, and moved back to Boston. For 25 years, Paco and Bill lived on Fayette Street in Bay Village, actively engaged with and supportive of the Bay Village Neighborhood Association. The couple married in November 2004.
Jorge was a kind, compassionate, generous and gentle soul. He volunteered with the Boston Public Library as a reading and literacy tutor. When his nephews were young, he took them on bike rides and walks on the beach, followed by a lunch of tuna fish sandwiches and "mimosas" made of ginger ale and orange juice. He was an exceptional cook and host who welcomed friends and family with amazing food. He had a knack for home décor with a sense of style and timeless elegance.
Jorge is survived by his sister Elda Wright (Maurice), nephews Justin and Jason (Briana), great-nephew Ayden, and a host of extended family and friends. We will all remember his warm smile and infectious laugh.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday November 4, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Jorge and his beloved Bill will be laid to rest together on Friday, November 5, 2021, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 10:30 am..
