John E. Butzel, on July 21, 2022, loving husband of Sandra Butzel and father of David and Steven Butzel, passed away at the age of 80. John was born on August 23, 1941, in Detroit, MI. Growing up, he attended the Cranbrook School, earned his Bachelor's Degree from Stanford University and Master's Degrees from San Jose State University and the University of Michigan. For 15 years, he excelled as a hospital administrator in Evanston, IL, Detroit, MI, and Boston, MA. Later he became owner of Olney Associates, a Boston-based consulting firm specializing in benefits and executive compensation. John was known for his kindness, devotion to his family, sunny personality, and endless sense of humor, especially puns! He was an avid classic music lover, a regular attendee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a devoted fan of his Detroit and Boston sports teams, and all his family's dogs. John was preceded in death by his father, Martin; and his mother, Rosalie. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his two sons, David and Steven; his brothers, Leo and Albert; daughterin-law, Jessica Butzel; grandchildren, Chloe and Andrew Butzel; loving caregiver, Peter Babi; and lifelong friend, Steven Steinhour. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 30, at the Nathaniel Allen House (Newton Cultural Alliance) at 35 Webster Street in West Newton, MA.
