Obituary

Joanna Ellen Scannell of Westwood died January 20, 2022 at age 71. Daughter of the late David D. and Elizabeth (FitzSimmons) Scannell.  Survived by her sister Elizabeth Burke and her husband Jack of West Roxbury, her brother David Scannell and his wife Mary of Punta Gorda, Fl, and her brother Henry Scannell of Jamaica Plain. Cherished aunt of Daniel and Molly Abbott of Medfield, Nathan Abbott and Michaela Thompson of Jamaica Plain, John and Sarah Abbott of Weymouth, David Scannell and Vicki McGrane of Reading, Molly and Kyle Bryan of Chicago.  Doting great aunt to Sam, Willa, Jack, Matthew, Brian, Daisy, and Maggie Abbott, Grace and Eleanor Scannell, and Penelope Bryan.  Also survived by a multitude of friends, neighbors, colleagues, clients, and cousins who will hold her memory dear.

Joanna grew up in Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of Albertus Magnus College and received an M.ED from BU and her JD from Suffolk Law School.  She practiced family law for many years in the Dedham area. One of her greatest pleasures was entertaining friends and family at her pool in Westwood or at the family cottage in Prince Edward Island.  She always thought the best of people and they rarely disappointed her. Joanna felt very strongly that flowers were a waste at funerals and would prefer donations to Alice's House Inc, PO Box 681, Humarock, MA 02047, www.aliceshouse.org or to One Can Help, P.O. Box 55, Newton, MA, 02468 www.onecanhelp.org If unvaccinated please express your sympathy remotely.
