Bauer, James V. age 86, of West Roxbury (Edelweiss Village). Died January 10, 2011. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita M. (LAFFEY), daughter Patricia Hanehan (Patrick) of Clearwater, FL, son James F. Bauer (Cecile) of Frisco, TX, grandson Brendan Hanehan of Rockville, MD, granddaughter Lauren Bauer of Frisco, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Indianapolis, IN, the youngest of twelve siblings, all deceased: Brothers Edward, Louis, William, Richard, Robert, Joseph, and Sisters Gertrude, Suzanne, Rosemary, Laura, and Sr. Gertrude Marian, S.P. Son of Louis W. and Mary Ida (Guinan) Bauer. Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY on Saturday January 15, at 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in The Holy Name Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Retired U.S. Navy, 20 years. Retired U.S. Postal Service, 20 years. Former Grand Knight West Roxbury Council 3049, District Deputy, and Bishop Cheverus Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. Member of the Tin Can Sailors, Fleet Reserve Association, Disabled American Veterans, and the National Association of Retired Federal Workers. World War II veteran and survivor of the North Atlantic sinking of the U.S.S. Leary DD158 on Christmas Eve, 1943. Volunteer at the V.A. Hospital in West Roxbury, also for the Simon of Cyrene Society for the Disabled, and for the U.S. Navy Chaplain at the Fargo Building, South Boston. Established Bingo at St. Angela's Catholic Church, Mattapan, and coordinated the K of C Tootsie-Roll Drive for Disabled Children.
