Obituary

Itamar Lubetzky

A Life of Music, Dedication, and Family.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Itamar Lubetzky of Brookline, Massachusetts.  A devoted father, grandfather, musician, and educator.  A man of extraordinary courage and big heart who passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, held in the loving presence of his daughter.

Born and raised in Israel, Itamar carried with him a lifelong passion for music and a deep love for family, nurtured by his devoted parents, Bella and Meir Lubetzky, whom he always idolized.  His dedication and their support inspired him to pursue his dreams and eventually brought him to the United States on a Music scholarship.

When Itamar first arrived in New York City he stayed with cousins on the Upper West Side, where he played the trumpet in jazz bands and clubs throughout the city before he traveled to Boston for his studies at Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, and Tanglewood. There he studied along many extraordinary artists and educators that shaped the course of his life and career. A gifted musician and composer, he loved playing almost any instrument, from the piano to the trumpet.

Itamar made his home in Brookline with his former wife Linda Lubetzky where they raised their children and many family pets along the way. Coming from a large extended family, he worked tirelessly to keep those bonds strong across distances.  Every year he found a way to bring his family together in Israel and many times Mexico to visit. Those gatherings were more than trips—they were the nurturing of family, filled with moments and relationships that will live on for generations.

He shared his love of music as a dedicated teacher, band director, and marching band conductor at Burlington High School, where he spent many years inspiring and guiding his students. Through his teaching, he impacted countless young lives—instilling not only musical skill, but also confidence, discipline, and creativity.

He may never fully know how many people he impacted, but over the years, some former students reached out to share how deeply he had influenced their lives. Hearing their words left him both overwhelmed and humbled, as he hadn't realized the lasting difference he had made.

He valued precision and discipline, spending countless hours meticulously transcribing music from reel-to-reel recordings into handwritten sheet music. These qualities carried into his later career in accounting and bookkeeping where his attention to detail and dedication stood out. Itamar truly loved to work-finding in it not only creativity and accomplishment, but also meaningful relationships, deep satisfaction and a strong sense of purpose. When he set his mind to something, that was it, he wouldn't stray. Nothing made him happier than solving a problem except having a great meal.

He was complex, meticulous, loud, and funny. He was tough and incredibly smart. He was courageous and stronger than anyone thought, a fighter until the end. He was dedicated and honest.  And beneath it all he was a man with a huge heart. He was one of a kind and he will be missed by more people than he ever realized.

He is survived by his loving family. His daughter Yael Lubetzky, his son Gil Lubetzky, daughter in-law Tanya. His beloved grandchildren Tye, Trent and Boston. His dear sister Miri Aseo, and his cherished niece and nephew Libby Lubetzky and Ronen Aseo, numerous cousins and extended family.

His legacy lives on through the people he loved, the students he taught, people he inspired and the family and dear friends who carry his memory forward.
