Obituary

George Y. Lee, 66, beloved husband, father, uncle, gung gung and friend passed away on October 2, 2023, in Boston, MA. George always had a smile on his face and an upbeat attitude.

George Yee Lee was born in Boston, MA on September 28, 1957, to Allen Lee and Mee Fong Lee (Tso), who were immigrants from China. He was the middle child of three kids.

George worked as a civilian in operations at the Boston Police Department for over 40 years and was set to retire at the end of this year. George was very proud of his service to the BPD and has made many life-long friends there.

While George was passionate about his job, his family remained his greatest treasure. He cared greatly and deeply about taking care of his family and extended family. Having two daughters of his own, George was made to be a "Girl Dad." He was their greatest support, and often their designated driver to and from dance classes, performances and other activities. Not only was he gifted with two daughters, he was proud to act as a "bonus dad" to his nephews and nieces; His youngest niece even referred to him as  "Uncle Dad." In 2019, he was overjoyed with the arrival of his first grandson and again in 2022 with his second grandson. He was very proud of his "children" as evidenced by the number of photos he took and shared about all of them.

George loved to travel with his family and recent years had a great fondness to going on cruises. His last trip was to Alaska, which was on one of his bucket lists of places to see. Any trip made with family, especially those that included his "children" made him happy whether it was close by or far away.

George is survived by his wife Ngei and his children Christina and Jennifer and her husband, Frank. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Michael and Peter. George is also survived by his older sister Rita and his younger brother Ed, his wife Caren, his niece Stephanie and her husband Francisco and great-niece Viviana. He is also survived by his in-laws, Suey, Yan and her husband Jian, Jian and his wife Vivian, and his nephews Andy and Kevin and niece Amy.

The family is grateful for the care, attention and compassion shown by all the staff members at the Brigham and Women's Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The family is also grateful for the medical care that he has received from Joslin Diabetes Clinic and Brigham and Women's.

George will be missed very much by all who had the opportunity to get to know and share time with him.

Visiting hours will be held in the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home 1803 Center St. West Roxbury, on Monday, October 9, from 3:00 to 7:00pm. A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
